CPM's trade union arm, Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), today said it will intensify its stir against "anti-labour" policies of the UPA government.
CITU General Secretary Tapan Sen said that trade unions will hold demonstration in state capitals on September 25 and march to Parliament on December 12 demanding implementation of their charter of demands.
The union, in its all working committee meeting, which concluded today, discussed the present economic situation, its causes and impact on workers and common people, violation of labour laws and the strategy to highlight the issues more effectively in coming days.
"Present economic situation is worsening in the country due to wrong economic policies which are aimed at benefiting capitalists only. There is no impact on the profit of industrialists and the economy is putting its pressure on workers and common people," Sen said.
"Economic policies of the UPA government, inflation, anti-labour attitude, issues of labour agitations, violation of labour laws and unemployment were among other issues which we discussed in our meeting and decided to intensify our protest and agitation," he said.
"The main opposition BJP is also not fulfilling its responsibility towards people," Sen alleged.
He said that fixing a minimum wage not less than Rs 10,000, social security coverage for all workers, assured pension for working population and same wage and benefits for contract workers were among the demands of the trade unions which, along with issues related with women labourers, were discussed in the meeting here which began on August 27 and concluded today.
