"Assistant superintendent of District Jail Baramulla informed that some jail inmates created serious problems inside the jail premises over some administrative issue and attacked the jail staff this afternoon," a police spokesman said.
He said four policemen and two inmates were injured in the clashes during which the inmates allegedly set on fire the main gate of the jail premises.
"Some of the inmates damaged the wall of the district jail by removing the bricks to pelt them on the police party. They also set on fire the main gate of the jail which was extinguished with the help of fire services," the spokesman said.
A police party deputed to the jail premises was attacked by the jail inmates with stones, bricks and lathis, the spokesman said.
He said a case under various sections of Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) has been registered and the matter is being investigated.
