But close aides of Trump exuded confidence that Clinton's surge would even out in the next few weeks.
According to three different polls, Clinton has gained 11 point lead in Pennsylvania, a whopping 17-point lead in New Hampshire and a six-point lead in Michigan.
However, Paul Manafort, the Trump campaign's chief manager argued that this was expected after the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia last week.
According to RealClearPolitics.Com, which keeps track of all major national polls, Clinton's average lead over Trump has now increased to 5.9 per cent.
And in almost all major polls after Democratic National Convention, Clinton has been leading Trump in double digits.
Of all the major battleground states, Trump, as per RealClearPolics has a slim lead of 0.3 percentage points in Florida, Georgia (four points), and Missouri (6.3 points).
