"There is no need for calling the legislature party meeting to discuss the issue," he told reporters here a day after Yeddyurappa stepped up attack against him for not paying heed to the demand for the meeting by MLAs loyal to him.

Yeddyurappa had yesterday said he had decided to keep in abeyance his decision to quit the party, but wanted BJP central leaders to address the issues raised by him and strongly pressed for the legislature party meeting, which has not been held since Gowda became Chief Minister in August last year.

After keeping the BJP leaders on tenterhooks following a fresh crisis triggered by him that threatened the survival of the party government, Yeddyurappa had brought some respite by putting off his decision to quit.

The crisis, sparked by nine ministers and MLAs loyal to Yeddyurappa handing over their resignations to him, had almost reached a flash point before the party managed to rein him in.

Yeddyurappa, who has been sulking over the party leadership's refusal to entertain his demand for his reinstatement as Chief Minister, has since been targeting his once confidante Gowda, accusing him of insulting and casting aspersions on him.
