Cold wave conditions prevail in HP

Biting cold wave conditions today prevailed in the hill areas of Himachal Pradesh as minimum temperatures dropped in the state.
Icy winds continued unabated in the region as the mercury dropped by 10 to 15 degrees below the freezing point in high- altitude tribal areas.
Keylong, Kalpa and Manali recorded a low of minus 6.3 degrees Celsius, minus 3 degrees Celsius and zero degrees Celsius respectively.
Night temperatures dropped by few notches to 4.5 degrees Celsius at Solan, 5.4 degrees Celsius at Palampur and Bhuntar and 5.6 degrees Celsius at Dharamsala.
Water in pipes froze in many parts of Shimla while thick ground frost occurred in the mid and higher hills, disrupting vehicular traffic in the morning hours.
Keylong and Bharmaur received 10 cm and 6 cm of snow respectively during the past 24 hours while Udaipur recorded 5 cm. Naina Devi was the wettest place in the region with 16 mm rains, followed by Sarkaghat andBaldwara 10 mm, Baijnath, Dharamshala andJogindernagar 7 mm.
Day temperatures rose marginally. Unarecorded 21.2 degrees Celsius, followed by Nahan19.2 degrees Celsius, Solan18.6 degrees Celsius, Sundernagar15.5 degrees Celsius, Shimla and Dharamsala 15.2 degrees Celsius, Bhuntar 14.2 degrees Celsius and Kalpa 4.6 degrees Celsius.
The local MeT office has predicted dry weather in the region over next six days till December 20.
