District authorities today warned of action against proprietors and owners of hostels of coaching institutes for non-compliance with guidelines.
District collector Ravi Kumar Surpur also said a fresh guideline for paying guest houses (PGs) will soon be issued.
The collector, at a meeting with hostel owners and proprietors, asked them to ensure point-by-point compliance with the guidelines by July 30 and warned them of action if they fail to do so at a meeting here.
The collector spoke to each of the proprietors and owners and inquired about the compliance with the guidelines.
He asked them to inform the parents if a student remains absent for three days or if some "abnormal" behaviour of a student comes to their notice.
Stressing on special attention to safety, security and a healthy environment for students, Surpur said the guidelines aim at making Kota an "ideal destination for education".
He said a fresh guideline for PGs would soon be in place as a large number of students seek accommodation at such facilities.
He also asked them to ensure that cooking and serving of food at messes and hostels are done in a hygienic manner.
The Collector directed the municipal corporation to ensure proper waste and garbage management in areas with a strong student population.
The district administration had issued guidelines for coaching institutes and hostels on the onset of the current academic year in view of the rising number of suicides by students in Kota.
Around 1.5 lakh students from all over the country come to Kota to prepare for entrance examinations in premier medical and engineering colleges every year.
