School students were seen flocking around the Japanese Manga comic books of Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, Bleach and Bakuman on day one of the nine-day Fair organised by the National Book Trust (NBT) in association with the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) at Pragati Maidan.
After displaying Manga comics for the first time in the recently concluded Delhi Comic Con, publisher Simon and Schuster India, saw students storming to pick up manga comic books.
"These days, kids have grown up watching Japanese anime such as Naruto and Dragon Ball Z based on manga comic books which makes it easier for them to relate to these characters. The response has been great so far," said Rahul Srivastava, Managing Director Simon and Schuster India.
Every book stall has a unique section of children's literature and myriad shades of young-adult fiction.
Other than puppet books, which remained an attraction for both parents and kids alike, epics like the Ramayana and the Mahabharata, the Panchatantra series and literary classics of Amar Chitra Katha seemed to be a big hit among young bibliophiles.
Outside every auditorium, school students could be spotted with packets carrying books while actively participating in interactive sessions being organised in Kids Bubble, a dedicated area for children.
To mark the theme of fair, Roli Books put on display a series of recently launched Param Vir Chakra comic books, illustrating the lives of recipients of Param Vir Chakra, the highest gallantry award.
The Fair also includes exhibit session of books, workshops and discussions in especially curated panel -- A Tale of Tales, a visual journey showcasing the richness of children's literature in India.
Poland, the guest country in the current edition of the book fair, has put up an exhibition titled "It's a Strange World: 20 Illustrators from Poland", showcasing illustration for children.
