The Goa Forward (GF) today accused the Congress of making matters difficult for unity of opposition parties in the coastal state but maintained it was open to ally with them.
"In the last nine months, Goa Forward has realised that the principal opposition party (Congress) is making matters difficult for unity of opposition forces," GF Chief Spokesperson Prashant Naik told reporters here.
Goa Forward held its State Executive meeting today.
"GF cannot afford to waste any further time. Hence, based on the positive feedback of Goans to the vision and mission of Goa Forward, the election strategy was reviewed at the meeting of the State Executive of the party," he said.
The party announced that they will concentrate on 30 out of total 40 constituencies for the Goa elections, slated next year.
"Considering that elections are just around the corner and taking stock of the ground realities, and after an assessment of its strength, GF has decided to effectively focus on not less than 25 constituencies for 2017 elections while the prospecting will continue in 30 constituencies," Naik added.
He said the party is confident about support from Goans in a stand alone situation.
"However, the party would stay open for alliance to achieve the principal aim of removing the anti-Goa BJP from power," Naik added.
He said GF is prepared to forge alliance with the Congress party and has been repeatedly and consistently putting forward the demand for alliance with the party (Congress).
"GF is well aware about the failures of all former governments of national parties to protect land, environment and identity of Goa," Naik added.
