Cong refrains from commenting on Ram temple issue

The Congress today stayed away from commenting on the Ayodhya issue, saying the matter was sub-judice.
"The matter is sub-judice. It is being heard by the Supreme Court. To comment on it will be unfair," Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan told reporters at the party headquarters here.
He was replying to a question on his party colleague, Kapil Sibal, urging the Supreme Court to hear the appeals filed in the sensitive Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute case in July 2019, after the general elections.
Sibal, a lawyer, is representing the Sunni Waqf Board in the matter.
Chavan accused the BJP of trying to divert the attention of the people from the real issues in Gujarat, as it had "failed to answer" the questions on its 22 years of governance in the state.

"Rahulji (Gandhi) has been asking questions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP on the record of the party's 22-year rule in Gujarat, but no answers are forthcoming. Instead, they are diverting the attention of the people from the real issues," he said.

Chavan said the people of Gujarat would vote on the basis of the BJP's performance over the last 22 years in the state.
The 182-member Gujarat Assembly will go to the polls in two phases -- on December 9 and 14. The counting of votes will be taken up on December 18.
The former Maharashtra chief minister also condoled the demise of veteran actor Shashi Kapoor on behalf of the party and said he was a great and versatile actor.
