Ruling Congress today took a dig at BJP for fielding several turncoats after the party announced its first list of 43 candidates for the upcoming Haryana assembly polls.
"BJP is depending on imported (turncoats) candidates. They do not have enough candidates (from their ranks) to field. They may try doing everything, but people of Haryana have already made up their mind to vote Congress back to power," Haryana Congress Election Campaign Committee Chairman, Ajay Singh Yadav told reporters.
State Congress chief Ashok Tanwar said that out of 43 candidates which BJP has announced yesterday, "not even three can win" their seats.
"They do not have candidates on their own, which has forced them (BJP) to induct from other parties. But we have no dearth of capable candidates or workers," Tanwar said.
He said BJP had promised good days before Lok Sabha polls, but "burdened" people with price rise when they came to power. "People will reject BJP in the upcoming assembly polls," he said.
The polls to the 90-member Haryana Assembly are due next month.
In the first list of candidates released by BJP, the party has given ticket to Prem Lata Singh, wife of veteran Congress leader Birender Singh, who recently quit Congress and joined the saffron party.
Prem Lata would be fielded from Uchana Kalan in Jind, from where Birender Singh had lost the 2009 assembly polls to former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala.
Former Congress MLA Chhatar Pal Singh, who like Prem Lata, had recently joined the BJP, has been named party candidate for Hansi seat.
Another turncoat and Khap leader Shamsher Kharkara, who fought the 2014 Lok Sabha polls as INLD candidate from Rohtak, has been rewarded by BJP, which has announced his name for Meham after he joined the saffron outfit recently.
Krishan Panwar, who was an INLD MLA but recently quit the party after being denied a ticket, has been named by BJP as its candidate for Israna.
Former Congress Minister L D Arora's daughter Sunita Setia, who recently joined BJP, has been given ticket for Sirsa.
Some more turncoats from other parties have been accommodated in BJP's first list of candidates.
