Keeping up the offensive, Congress workers today continued their protest demanding resignation of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj for helping scam- tainted former IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi in procuring travel documents in the UK.
Scores of National Students' Union of India (NSUI) workers staged a protest outside Swaraj's Safdarjung Lane residence in posh Lutyens Bungalow Zone in central Delhi holding that her continuation in the Union Cabinet has become untenable due to the "serious allegations".
As they attempted to march towards Swaraj's residence, police swooped on the protesters and detained around 10 of them. A minor scuffle ensued when the protesters tried to break the barricades erected by police.
"We want Swaraj to resign from her post immediately. A special probe should be ordered to reveal the truth about the incident," an NSUI spokesperson said.
Effigies of Swaraj were also burnt.
Later, a group of workers from Congress' Women's wing held a protest outside BJP headquarters in Ashoka Road insisting that her continuation in the Union Cabinet had become untenable as she indulged in "illegal" activities.
"It was totally illegal. She must resign," said Mahila Congress leader Shobha Oza.
Police have already heightened its vigil in and around Swaraj's residence as several groups have lined up similar protests against her.
Congress has been attacking Swaraj since Sunday after reports surfaced that she had written to British lawmaker Keith Vaz to allegedly recommend travel documents for Lalit Modi for visiting Portugal.
Swaraj has said she had written to Vaz on "humanitarian grounds" after Lalit Modi said his wife was ill.
Congress had held protest against Swaraj yesterday as well.
