Opposition Congress today disrupted the Haryana Assembly proceedings over the issue of alleged "insult" of national leaders, following which Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar urged the Speaker to expunge "objectionable" remarks which had hurt the sentiments of any party.
As the Question Hour was going to start, Congress leader Karan Singh Dalal condemned the "irresponsible remarks" made by Haryana Ministers yesterday about "Nehru-Gandhi family and asked the Speaker to call a meeting of its leaders, members of treasury benches in his chamber to "resolve" the issue.
Though the Speaker tried to persuade the Congress leaders, including Kiran Chaudhry, to discuss the matter after the Question Hour, the opposition members refused to budge, leading to heated exchange of words between them and the treasury benches.
Haryana Finance Minister Abhimanyu even asked the vociferous Congress MLAs to maintain the sanctity of the House by letting the Question Hour begin.
Amid the din, members of INLD party demanded Adjournment motion from the Speaker for holding a discussion on heavy losses faced by Haryana farmers because of rains and hailstorm. They demanded Rs 350 per quintal bonus over and above MSP of wheat to compensate farmers.
When Congress MLAs remained adamant, Speaker Kanwarpal Gujjar adjourned the House for 15 minutes and called a meeting of BJP and Congress MLAs in his chamber to resolve the issue.
After the session resumed, Khattar advised the members of treasury benches not to "go too far" while speaking in the House whereby members of opposition should not feel "suppressed".
"If sentiments of anybody or a party have been hurt because of yesterday's remarks I feel those remarks should not have been said in the House," Khattar said, while speaking on the floor of the House and urged the Speaker to expunge "objectionable" remarks made yesterday in the Assembly.
He even assured the House that nobody from treasury benches will make objectionable remarks again and sought support from leaders of opposition parties to give an assurance in this regard.
Haryana Speaker Kanwarpal Gujjar expunged the "objectionable remark" made with regard to Congress leaders and RSS yesterday.
However, State Health Minister Anil Vij sought to know which remarks be expunged, saying "you cannot expunge the whole proceedings".
The Speaker then said, "It is my right which word is to be expunged."
Opposition benches took a strong note of the remarks uttered by Vij, who continuously asked Congress MLAs "what wrong he had said".
Enraged over it, Congress MLAs even raised slogans against him.
Khattar requested the members of House not to disrupt the proceedings again and allow the smooth conduct of the proceedings.
Opposition Congress yesterday demanded dismissal of "irresponsible" Manohar Lal Khattar government in Haryana, alleging that its Ministers were "insulting" national leaders and making an attempt to "implement the RSS agenda".
The opposition members had objected to some remarks made by Vij and Agriculture Minister O P Dhankar in context of the "Nehru-Gandhi" family.
