Accusing the BJP of "befooling" the people of Jammu region over the issue of AIIMS, Congress today blocked the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway in protest.
Congress workers, led by state General Secretary and former minister Manjit Singh, blocked traffic on the highway in Vijaypur area for almost half an hour.
"The PDP-BJP government has failed to address grievances of the people of Jammu region," Singh said.
"The Union government had announced AIIMS for Jammu but the Chief Minister, in presence of BJP legislators and ministers, stated that the prestigious hospital was given for Srinagar, not for Jammu," he lamented.
He accused the BJP of being part of the conspiracy of "snatching" AIIMS from Jammu and giving it to Kashmir for the sake of power.
"BJP wants to be in power and it does so by selling Jammu's demands and needs," he said.
Terming the new employment policy as "anti-youth", he demanded that the government should withdraw it in the interest of the unemployed youth.
He said recruitment should be done as per proper procedure though recruitment agencies like SSRB and PSC.
Referring to the damage to crops due to heavy rains in the border belt, he said, "The government remained unconcerned while the farmers continued to suffer damages.
