Telangana government has planned a week-long cultural extravaganza to celebrate the first anniversary of the formation of the state that came into being on June 2 last year, after it was carved out of Andhra Pradesh.
The celebrations on the first anniversary of the 29th state of the country will commence from June 1, officials said here today.
"In remembrance of the struggle and sacrifice made during the formation of Telangana, the state government is planning to hold events covering different fields from literature to music in all districts, municipalities and municipal corporations for the entire week," officials said.
"In addition to this, to brighten the spirit of Telangana, those who have excellently participated and those who played a vital role from various fields would be honoured and awarded," they said.
To commemorate the occasion, fireworks would light up the sky at the crack of midnight on June 2, when the state came into being last year.
The week-long affair would engulf the city in exciting cultural performances by local artists, national flag hoisting on all government buildings, as well as a parade with the Police, NCC, Scout & Guide teams, officials said.
Special programmes would be held with local poets and artists, while there would also be a host of literary events, film shows, photo exhibitions and various workshops entrenched in Telangana culture, tradition and heritage.
"The story of Telangana has been a very symbolic and heroic one. With its first year anniversary, we are all geared up for this seven day carnival. We will ensure that people go back with some fun-filled and unforgettable memories of this jubilant state," Principal Secretary of Tourism & Culture Department, B P Acharya, said.
The government would be honouring experts in the field of literature and culture and award them with cash prizes.
The government has also appointed a committee to select state-level awards that would be presented to 50 persons for excellence in different fields. Each one would be presented with a cash award and memento. The awards would be presented during the parade to be held on state formation day on June 2.
