Conservation of Arctic Flora and Fauna opens Yakutsk session

Gorno-Altaysk, February 11 (Itar-Tass) The Conservation of Arctic Flora and Fauna, the working group of the Arctic Council, has opened its session in Yakutsk. It brought together 150 delegates from different Russian regions, the United States, Norway, Denmark, Canada, Finland, Switzerland, Sweden, the Netherlands and Iceland. Yakutia President Yegor Borisov in his opening remarks said the session of the working group of the Arctic Council in Yakutsk will launch the Year of Environment in Russia decreed by the President. The session will focus on environmental monitoring and assessments, data management and cooperation within the framework of the Arctic Council, international cooperation and Russian borders of the Conservation of Arctic Flora and Fauna, the republic's external relations ministry told Itar-Tass. Yakutia's Environment Minister Vladimir Grigoryev will make a report on the republic's environment, Executive Director of the Northern Forum Secretariat, Vladimir Vasilyev will represent environmental projects of the international organisation and chair of the Association of World Reindeer Herders, Mikhail Pogodaev, will show delegates a new project of support for reindeer herders' communities. The Conservation of Arctic Flora and Fauna (CAFF) is one of the Arctic's leading organisations that provides the most recent scientific information and data to Arctic policy makers.
