Arundhati Girish Hasabnis, a resident of Narhe was going on her two-wheeler when her vehicle was hit by Mukund Abhyankar's car from behind. She died on the spot.
Police have arrested 79-year-old Abhyankar, Group Chairman of Cosmos Co-operative Bank, under IPC sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 279 (rash driving), and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others).
"We have arrested Abhyankar under the relevant sections of the IPC and Motor Vehicles Act," senior inspector, Sushma Chavan of Deccan Gymkhana Police station said.
Chavan said that as per primary information, after the mishap took place Abhyankar continued to drive further, but was stopped by a policeman and people on the road.
"Tomorrow, we will go through the CCTV cameras installed in the area and will see what exactly happened," she said.
