One M Srinivas, wielding an axe came in front of Tandoor police station in the district and suddenly attacked two local residents with it. A constable, who went to catch hold of him was also assaulted by him, DSP (Bellampalli Sub-Division) Ramana Reddy said.
"Some locals overpowered him and then beat him up following which he was finally caught," another police officer attached to Tandoor police station said, adding, they would take him to a hospital and later produce him before a magistrate.
Based on a preliminary investigation, the police officer said that Srinivas, who suspected his wife's fidelity, was apparently angered after coming to know that she had got pregnant and suddenly resorted to attacking locals.
A case on charge of attempt to murder has been booked against him and further probe is on.
