In a multi-city operation, the CBI today carried out searches at 12 locations in connection with an alleged corruption case against the Commissioner Income Tax (Appeals) posted here.
CBI sources said a case of allegedly amassing properties disproportionate to the known sources of income has been registered against Haribansh Kumar Chaudhary, an IRS of 1988 batch.
"A case has been registered against an IRS officer. It is alleged that he has amassed disproportionate assets. CBI teams have carried out searches at 12 locations," CBI spokesperson R K Gaur said here.
It is alleged that Chaudhary has amassed disproportionate assets to the tune of over Rs 4 crore in his and his family members' name while serving as Assistant Commissioner and Commissioner Income Tax, the sources said.
The search operations spread from Chennai, Surat, Saharsa and in the national capital at the residential premises of the officer, chartered accountants and his native village, they said.
The premises of two chartered accountants in Surat and one in Chennai who are believed to be closely associated with the officer have been included in the operation, they added.
During the searches, CBI collected incriminating documents related to the case, Gaur said.
Documents showing companies of his mother, son and wife have also been recovered by the agency during the searches, the sources said.
