CPI(M) today flayed the BJP government for hiking the price of diesel and said the latest increase had 'destroyed' the hopes of the people who voted it to power and demanded that the hike be rolled back.
Noting that BJP had criticised the previous UPA regime for increasing the diesel price by 50 paise every month,CPI(M) State Secretary G Ramakrishnan said the latest increase showed there was no change in the economic policy followed by the BJP compared to the previous Congress-led central government.
"People voted for BJP hoping that the new government would take proper steps to control the steep increase in price of essential commodities. But the increase in diesel price has only destroyed their hopes. It is unjustifiable", he said.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had yesterday said the diesel price increase was a continuation of the previous Congress-led UPA regime's 'wrong' policies and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to roll back the hike, besides seeking a new pricing regime for petro products.
Diesel prices were hiked on Sunday by 50 paise a litre, excluding state levies, the second increase in rates in three weeks.
