'CPI-M has nothing to conceal', says CITU leader

A day after the CIC ruled that political parties come under the ambit of Right to Information Act, CPI-M's trade union wing CITU today said the party had nothing to hide as everything is in the public domain.
"CPI-M has nothing to conceal as everything is under the public domain," CITU All-India General Secretary Tapan Sen, MP, told reporters.
He denied that the CPI-M had been "substantially assisted" by the Central Government.
The CIC, a quasi-judicial body, had said six national parties Congress, BJP, NCP, CPI-M, CPI and BSP have been substantially funded indirectly by the central government and they have the character of public authority under the RTI Act as they perform public functions.

Criticising the UPA government, the CITU leader claimed that income tax arrears of over Rs 4.82 trillion had to be collected from corporate giants in the country and it could go a long way in setting right the current account deficit.
He alleged that as part of "anti-people" policies, shares of public sector units were sold at a 'gifted price' with a view to pleasing the corporates.
"CITU will intensify its struggles in association with other trade unions against UPA government's anti-people policies," he added.
