CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat after hoisting the party flag stressed the need to strengthen the party organisation in the state to defeat Trinamool Congress and BJP in West Bengal.
Karat also underlined the need for unifying secular, democratic and progressive forces to fight what he said the "communal agenda" of BJP-RSS combine and the "neo-liberal policies" of the BJP.
The conference also assumes significance in view of next month's election to Kolkata municipal corporation.
The ongoing party conference saw change of guard in CPI(M) leadership in several districts of the state including Burdwan and West Midnapore with several party veterans handing over the leadership to younger generation.
In the conference, the CPI(M) leadership would also dwell on its tactical line for next three years.
