Led by Dinesh Varshney, assistant secretary of the Left party's Delhi unit, the protesters condemned alleged police inaction and accused the DCP of not making regular surprise visits to stations as decided after the 2012 Nirbhaya case.
"The DCP should resolve public complaints in a time-bound manner. Or else, CPI will be compelled to organise a massive protest at PHQ (Police Headquarters at ITO)," Varshney warned, according to a statement.
"Girls are harassed on roads. Girl schools were not provided security. Anti-social elements stand throughout the school hours," Rukmani Devi, Secretary, West Delhi district Mahila Federation, was quoted as saying in the statement.
Later, a delegation of the party submitted a memorandum to the DCP, a copy of which was also sent to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and Police Commissioner Alok Kumar Verma.
