JD(U) general secretary Farooq Ahmed Khan today said the current coalition government led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has fared better on the crime control effort than the previous dispensations in Bihar.
"Compared to previous governments, the crime rate is less under the present Bihar government and the state is quite peaceful unlike its neighours" Khan told reporters while kicking off the party's membership drive here.
"Crimes committed in Delhi are far more in number than in Bihar. We have the law and order situation under control. Nobody has the permission to take law into their hands," he said.
He was asked whether crime graph has increased under the current JD(U)-RJD-Congress alliance government in the state.
"No. Crime rate has actually decreased ever since Lalu Prasad Yadav joined the government," Khan said responding to opposition's allegation that incidents of crime had increased due to the presence of Lalu's RJD in the government.
"When we were in coalition with the BJP, more crimes were committed in the state. Criminal incidents have come down since we formed a coalition government with RJD, " said Khan.
When reminded about incidents like Gaya road rage and Siwan journalist's murder, he claimed some people were out to malign the current Bihar government by committing such crimes. However, he said, their sinister plans were being foiled by the state government.
Khan said there was total prohibition in Bihar unlike other states where it was just for "show-off".
