The visiting dignitary also met Vice President Hamid Ansari and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.
An agreement on exemption of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic passports was signed between the two countries today.
The External Affairs Ministry said Mario held wide-ranging discussions with the leaders here on a range of issues of mutual interest and concern.
Relations between India and Cuba have been traditionally warm and friendly.
"Our relations are historical and underlined by convergence of interests on global issues," the MEA said.
"Meetings were held in a warm and friendly atmosphere, reflecting the spirit of mutual trust, cooperation and understanding that characterizes the unique and special relations between the two countries," the MEA said.
