Foodies can now take a culinary tour of the city, which dips into delicious food from across 80 food joints, by hopping on to 'Delhi's Delicious Food Tour Bus'.
The tour is being organised by SeekSherpa, a mobile marketplace that connects travellers and locals over unique experiences and aims to explore taking groups of people on a regular basis to discover food at joints that would otherwise not be at a walking distance.
The idea, conceived in December last year, offers foodies a three-hour tour in a bus starting from Hauz Khas metro station.
"People assemble at a starting point and we take them for 3 hours to various food stops. The price of the food and transport is all included in the tour," says Dhruv Raj Gupta, co-founder, Seeksherpa.
The ride is like a movie outing with fellow travellers indulging in food and conversation at the same time.
The food joints, say organisers have been kept secret and were shortlisted by 80 food Sherpas at SeekSherpa through a polling mechanism.
The tour, priced at Rs 899 per person offers a variety of cuisines including Indian, Tibetan, Afghani etc.
"The bus tour is an amazing journey to the kitchens of as many states of India possible in 3 hours with the aim of tasting a variety of foods across India," says Dhruv.
The price includes a dish at 3 stops, a reserved seat in an A/C coach, a bottle of water, sanitiser, tissues and Sherpa fee are included in the cost.
The organisers claimed to have catered to more than 350 customers since their launch last year and have executed 12 successful bus tours with an average of 2 tours in a week.
"We have catered to over 350 consumers across 12 successful bus tours since we launched which is almost 2 per week," says Dhruv.
The community plans to launch similar initiative in Mumbai.
"We are based in Delhi currently. Our pilot in Mumbai was successful and we will launch shortly," says Dhruv.
The food bus tour which is like a picnic has been received well by the customers with great review posted on the website.
"Went for the 30th Jan tour. Have to say it was amazing! Great food, dishes I've never had before. Brilliant idea. Will definitely go for other tours. Highly recommended," Ayushi, a traveller wrote on the SeekSherpa website.
"We had the drooling Tandoori Momos from Lajpat, the Butterly-delicious Sanjay Chur Chur Nan, Mutton Chopan Kabab (Afghani Darbar), followed by Sheer Yakh (this was awesome!)," says Gaurav, another traveller.
After the spicy round of food, a desserts food bus tour is on the cards.
"We are getting deeper into cuisines in the food bus concept and exploring a desserts food bus tour and a food Bhawans food bus crawl," says Dhruv.
