Gold worth about Rs one crore has been seized by customs officials from four people who were allegedly trying to smuggle it into the country at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport here.
The seizures were effected in two separate instances reported in the last four days.
In the first case, a man was intercepted after his arrival from Dubai yesterday and his baggage search resulted in seizure of 20 gold bars, collectively weighing 2.3 kg and valued at Rs 69.73 lakh, a statement issued by the customs department today said, adding the passenger was arrested.
In another instance, three men were intercepted after their arrival from Muscat on Friday.
A personal search and an inspection of their baggage resulted in recovery of seven gold bars weighing 1.01 kg and valued at Rs 30.35 lakh. The three accused were arrested, the statement said.
