DAHWA launches hand-holding prog for producing community leaders

The Destitute And Handicapped Welfare Association (DAHWA) has launched a hand-holding and nurturing programme for women to produce community-based leaders and trainers in Jammu and Kashmir.

DAHWA president S S Sumbria, along with trainers, visited a camp location at Rathian village in Udhampur district on Wednesday and convened a meeting with the scheme beneficiaries, a spokesman of the association said.

The DAHWA camps are being held under the Nai Roshni scheme for leadership development, which is a ministry for Minority Affairs initiative.

During the programme, the women trainers expressed interest in identifying and resolving problems in the area, the spokesman said, adding that the Nai Roshni beneficiaries brought to light several cases which needed attention. Further, the beneficiaries submitted a list of new pension cases, he said.

Issues such as voltage fluctuation, irregular water supply, construction of Rathian to Loundana Road, etc., were picked up at the camp.

The women were encouraged to form self-help groups, mahila mandals or mahila sabhas to manage these issues in a organised and efficient manner.

DAHWA formed committees of Nai Roshani beneficiaries, which comprises Shakuntla Devi as president and Neelam Devi as secretary, and Shamshaad Begum, Sushma Devi, Kanta Devi, Channo Devi, Rekha Devi and Vaishno Devi as members.

In August and September, DAHWA has conducted six-day training programmes for five batches of minority and rural women in different villages of Udhampur district under Nai Roshani scheme, the spokesman said.
