The deceased, identified as Nafe Singh, was the father of a murder accused, Ajay, who had allegedly hacked to death three villagers four months ago, they said.
The incident came to light this evening when police received information that the body of an elderly man was sighted on the bank of a pond in the village.
Police rushed to the spot and found Nafe lying in a pool of blood, officials said, adding that the body, bearing marks inflicted by some sharp edged weapon, has been sent for postmortem.
"The exact cause behind the murder is yet to be ascertained. We are trying to find out if Nafe's murder has anything to do with the triple murders perpetrated by his son Ajay on March 18," said a police spokesman.
Sonu (20), his cousin Narender (15) and nephew Manjeet (12) were allegedly hacked to death by Ajay when they were asleep in their house in Mandhothi village.
Ajay, who was later arrested, purportedly confessed to his crime, stating that he had done it as the trio used to pass derogatory remarks against his sister.
Fearing repercussions, Ajay's family had fled from the village, police said, adding that Nafe had come to the village this noon to collect some belongings kept in his ancestral house.
