Chennai-based Sankara Netralaya, a non-profit charitable eye hospital, was offered four acre land for only Re 1 through a resolution passed in by the general body of TMC last month.
The decision was opposed by Minister of State for Medical Education and NCP leader Jitendra Awhad who alleged that the nearly Rs 100 crore plot has been given "for free" and charged the Shiv Sena, which runs the TMC, of indulging in corruption.
He also made an oblique reference to those opposing the decision in the letter that it was due to "dristi dhosh" (defect of sight) on part of some people which is why they are voicing against the project.
Davkhare said citizens should not loose on the golden opportunity of getting the health project for themselves and also asked them to come out in support of it by organising meetings and campaigns.
