The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has issued a notice to the health secretary of the national capital over medical practitioners in city hospitals not providing copy of medico legal case to the survivors of sexual assault.

The commission has sought to know whether all the hospitals have been apprised of the directions, issued by the High Court of Delhi, in this regard and asked Health Secretary Chandrakar Bharti to provide information on the steps taken by the department for monitoring the compliance of its orders.

"It has been brought to the knowledge of the commission that the medical practitioners in the hospitals have not been providing the copy of Medico Legal Case to the survivors of sexual assault.

"The state of NCT of Delhi on September 18, 2009, clearly states that: "The report should be prepared expeditiously and signed by the doctor conducting the examination and a copy of medical report be provided to the parents/ guardian of the child victim," the notice said.

The commission has asked the secretary to submit the reply within seven days of the receipt of the letter.

The DCW is a statutory body constituted under the Delhi Commission for Women Act, 1994.

The primary mandate of the commission is to investigate and examine all the matters relating to the safeguards provided for women under the constitution and other laws.
