Delhi unit of BJP today urged the Haryana government to immediately release 381 cusecs of water through Tejawala Reservoir for Delhi.
In his letter to Haryana Chief Minister Bhupender Singh Hooda, Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay said: "Haryana government should immediately release 381 cusecs of water through Tejawala Reservoir for Delhi in compliance with the 1994 agreement."
He threatened that if Haryana government does not start releasing the said quantity of water by August 5 then state unit will stage demonstration against the Congress dispensation in the neighbouring state.
Upadhyay alleged that Haryana curtails release of water from Tejawala by 70 cusecs and makes false claims about releasing water from other reservoirs.
In the letter, the BJP leader also said there was "great" scarcity of water for both drinking and irrigation purpose in Delhi and curtailment in release of water from Haryana has created water crisis in the national capital.
"If Haryana government releases full quantity of water, the water treatment plant at Bawana may be then fully utilised and the problem of scarcity of drinking water could be solved immediately," he added.
He further said that Delhi BJP through BJP MPs will present the problems of the people of Delhi before the Upper Yamuna River Board under Ministry of Water Resources.
