The Delhi government has warned private schools in the national capital of strict action if they do not provide textbooks and uniforms free of cost to Economically Weaker Section (EWS) students.
"You are directed to ensure compliance of the provision in RTE Act and provide without fail free textbooks, writing material and uniform to the child attending school under EWS and DG category," a communication sent by Directorate of Education (DoE) to school principals said.
"Compliance in this respect is to be submitted by all the schools along with the relevant documents. Strict action will be initiated against the defaulting schools," the letter said.
Schools have to reserve 25 per cent seats for admission to students belonging to the EWS and Disadvantaged Category (DG).
The government reimburses a fixed amount of Rs 1,598 per student to private schools in lieu of giving admission to students who belong to this section.
Schools have to maintain a separate bank account for the amount received by them as reimbursement.
"An audit of bank accounts opened separately may be done to ascertain the correct position in this regard," the DoE letter said.
