In a first, the Delhi Metro today inducted into its fleet a train with advertisements wrapped on its exterior, a move aimed at augmenting its non-operational revenues.
The train will run on the Dwarka-Vaishali route of DMRC's Blue Line which is one of the busiest in the entire Metro network.
"The exclusive advertising rights, valid for 10 years, have been given to two agencies and the selected agencies will give annual licence fee," said a DMRC spokesperson.
15 such trains will be initially inducted, the spokesperson said, adding it will a "gradual" process.
The second train will start running on the Yellow Line next week.
"Approximately 15 such trains will be inducted into service initially with seven trains on Yellow Line (Jahangirpuri - HUDA City Centre) and eight trains on Line Blue Line (Dwarka Sector 21 - Noida City Centre/Vaishali) which are the busiest lines of Delhi Metro network. The first train on Yellow Line will also be inducted by next week," said a DMRC spokesperson.
Advertisements adorning the exteriors of the trains will be in the form of pictures, holographic images, visual displays and digital among others, the spokesperson added.
The DMRC operates a fleet of over 200 trains at present with over 60 eight-coach trains and over 80 six-coach trains whose interiors have already been made available for the purpose of advertising.
