Out of the total number of cases this season, August alone had accounted for 652.
According to a municipal report released today, at least 771 cases were reported till September 3, marking a rise of nearly 60 per cent from the count last week.
Civic authorities which had till yesterday maintained the death tally at two, today updated the figure to four.
25-year-old Iram Khan, a native of Meerut, who lived in Jamia Nagar in south Delhi, succumbed to dengue on August 31 at the Apollo Hospital.
Nazish, 38, sister-in-law of Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan, had died of dengue shock syndrome at Apollo Hospital.
12-year-old Muskan, a resident of Shaheen Bagh here, had died on July 29, while Deepak (19), from Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh, succumbed to the disease on July 27, both at Safdarjung Hospital.
Besides, five other fatalities have been reported by different hospitals in the city, which have not been acknowledged yet by the SDMC.
18-year-old youth Asad Iqbal, a native of Bihar, had succumbed to the deadly disease on August 28 at Apollo Hospital.
Safdarjung Hospital had recently reported another dengue death that took place late July.
This year, dengue cases have been reported rather early. The vector-borne disease had claimed its first victim on July 21 when a girl from Jafrabad in northeast Delhi died at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital.
487 cases of the vector-borne disease were reported till August 27, while 284 cases came to light in the last week alone.
In 2015, only six cases were reported in June, while 36 were registered in July.
In 1996, a severe outbreak of dengue had occurred in Delhi when about 10,252 cases and 423 deaths were reported.
