Dextrocardia to feature in Bengali film 'Sajarur Kanta'

Dextrocardia, a rare congenital syndrome where the heart is located on the right side, will be explored in a Bengali film inspired by Saradindu Bandopadhyay's story 'Sajarur Kanta'.
"I had taken the suggestion from doctor friends to etch out the script show how an assassination attempt with porcupine stick fails for the last victim because his heart is located in the right side," director Saibal Mitra said on using this medical condition in his film 'Sajarur Kanta'.
Actor Indraneil Sengupta, who plays the last victim of the serial killer in the film, said he was aware about the medical condition.

"Such people are normal otherwise and you can't make out from their acts unless there is a situation," Indraneil said.
"It may be good that a film now deals with the scientific term, but 'Sajarur Kanta' is inspired by a novel centred on detective Byomkesh Bakshi and it was the original literature that had brought home the topic," Indraneil said.
The novel is about mysterious murders where the quill of a porcupine pierces the heart of the victim, killing him or her instantly.

There have been instances in Hollywood and Bollywood where the condition was a part of the narrative.

In the film "Dr No", a character explains to James Bond that he once survived a murder attempt because of the peculiar location of his heart.
The issue also came up in 1969 film "Doppelganger".
In Hindi film "Luck" (2009), the character had his heart on the right side instead of the left which saved his life.
