Uttar Pradesh police chief O P Singh handed over Saturday 88 motorcycles to Ghaziabad and Gautam Budh Nagar districts to upgrade the state's Dial 100 response service.
Out of the 88 motorcycles, 46 have been allotted to Ghaziabad police and 42 to Gautam Budh Nagar police.
In his address, the director general of police said this is the second phase to upgrade the Dial 100 service. These two bordering districts adjoining the national capital have been on top priority with a view to provide better policing, he said.
These police response vehicles (PRVs) would enable policemen to access narrow lanes in a shorter span of time.
In 2016, the average response time taken by four-wheeler PRVs was 23 minutes. Now, a time limit of 10 minutes has been fixed as the response time for these vehicles.
Daily 50 to 60 thousand calls are attended by police control room based at Lucknow out of which, only 14 to 15 thousand cases are registered at various police stations in the state. The Dial 100 helpline will be converted into integrated system providing instant help in cases of fire, ambulance service for medical emergencies, natural disasters, road accidents and along with crime control.
Now the PRV service has become more active and popular among masses as police has now started registering cases through Dial FIR system which is the initiative of Ghaziabad Police. In cases of snatching and loot, victims are no more required to go to police station to lodge the FIR.
