Digvijay hits out at STF probe into MPPEB scam

Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh today alleged that the probe by special task force into the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board scam is aimed at protecting Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and those close to him.
"STF probe into the MPPEB scam is totally helpless ("laachar") and is aimed at protecting the Chief Minister, his family, influential politicians and officials close to him," Singh said after meeting the STF chairman Justice Chandresh Bhushan here.
STF was formed only recently by the Madhya Pradesh High Court after Singh filed a petition demanding a CBI probe into the scam where the entrance examinations for professional courses were allegedly rigged.

"The way the probe is going on, the accused will not get punished and therefore I have demanded a CBI probe. How can an official whose confidential report will be written by the Chief Minister will be able to probe a case against him?" Singh said.
He also alleged that the computer hard disks seized from the possession of MPPEB officials were tampered with to save some influential people.
He warned the STF officials that under the Information Technology Act, tampering with hard disks is a crime, cases can be registered under the act and can lead to prison terms.

Innocent students had been jailed, he said, adding that "if I were in power, I would ask the authorities to make these students approvers and ensure that middlemen and officials are put in the jail."
The former Chief Minister said he was going to set up a toll-free number at his residence so that people can give information about the MPPEB scam, the MP Public Service Commission scam and the mining scam.
Identity of the caller will remain confidential, he said.
