DJB denies reports of differences with DDA over water-sharing deal with Himachal

The Delhi Jal Board on Wednesday denied any differences with DDA on the proposed water-sharing deal with Himachal Pradesh to meet the city's drinking water needs.

Under the plan, the hill state would provide excess water from its share to the DJB and, in return, the Delhi Development Authority would provide it land parcels in Dwarka to build an additional 'bhawan'.

"There are no differences with DDA on the proposed water-sharing deal with Himachal Pradesh and both sides are moving forward to execute it in an effective manner," a senior DJB official said, denying reports it was upset with the land-development authority for allegedly trying to take credit for the agreement.

Delhi is expected to get 100 million gallons per day (MGD) from Himachal's share of Yamuna water for drinking purpose. The water will be released into the river at Tajewala Barrage.

Some of the water will be supplied to DDA's upcoming housing colonies in areas like Narela and Rohini.

At present, DJB supplies 900 MGD of water to Delhi on an average against the demand of 1,100 MGD.
