The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) today gave approvals to several projects including setting up of RO plants and water dispensing units, construction of an 8 MGD waste water pumping station and extension of piped water supply to Begumpur Extension and Begum Vihar areas.
In the Board meeting here, DJB members granted approval to replicate 'Savda Ghevra' model of potable water supply in other parts of the city through 280 water ATMs in unauthorised colonies and JJ clusters, said a senior official.
These water ATMs located at Khyala, Vishnu Garden, Patelnagar, Ranjit Marg, Narayan Vihar, Mahipalpur Dabas, Nithari, Burari, Jindpur, Ibrahimpur, Shadipur, Okhla Vihar, Hamidpur, Bahrauli, Tikrikhurd and Bindapuri, will improve potable water supply.
It is estimated that about 29 decentralised RO-based plants can be installed at various locations across Delhi on design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis. The areas for installing these plants have been identified and the Board approved the award of work and speedy implementation of the project, he said.

"It has been the special focus of the Delhi Government to ensure easy access to potable water to the maximum number of people in Delhi. We want to bring more areas into the piped water supply network, especially those which are presently being served by our tanker services," said Kapil Mishra, Delhi Water Minister and Chairman of DJB.
The Board is committed to providing piped drinking water supply to every household in line with the policy of the government and its our endeavour to extend piped water supply in a time-bound manner in the next three years to those unauthorised colonies which are dependent on water tankers for daily requirements, said SS Yadav, CEO of DJB.
