The plea came from Dravidar Kazhagam leader K Veeramani, who is considered close to DMK chief M Karunanidhi and his views on many issues are believed to be reflective of the DMK's thought process.
Karunanidhi himself had sent feelers to CPI-M and CPI last night, saying DMK will accept them if they come under his party led Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA).
Veeramani urged CPI-M and CPI to rethink their decision to face the Lok Sabha polls by themselves and align with DMK since the two have similar ideologies.
While the two Left parties had the complete authority on deciding to face the polls by themselves, they should however make their contribution in ensuring a secular government at the Centre that will strive for social justice and developing PSUs among others.
"As far as this election is considered, the important part is not who should come to power but who should not. Dravidar Kazhagam may not be part of the alliance but as a social movement which strongly supports the DMK alliance on common principles we put forth the idea and let the comrades (Left parties) consider it," he said while seeking Left parties' support for DPA.
