DMK today urged Governor K Rosaiah to 'implement' rule of law in Tamil Nadu and alleged breakdown of law and order and assault on judiciary by ruling AIADMK after jailing of party chief Jayalalithaa.

"We request you to exercise your Constitutional authority by taking appropriate action to implement the rule of law in Tamil Nadu," DMK Organisation Secretary RS Bharathi said in a memorandum to the Governor.

The DMK urged him to direct the government to "act in accordance with law" and take action against ruling partymen, who had 'violated the law.'

After the jailing of Jayalalithaa, ministers and AIADMK office-bearers engaged in various 'unlawful' agitations, the DMK alleged and referred to burning of buses and claimed that their party offices were attacked.

Alleging that public properties were damaged, the DMK urged recovery from AIADMK for damages.

"The government machinery remains muted against offences by ruling party functionaries. There is no law and order in the entire state of Tamil Nadu and peace and public tranquillity is at stake."

The local bodies, which have Constitutional status, were passing resolutions criticising the judge who delivered the verdict against Jayalalithaa and attributing ill motives against him, the DMK alleged and said 'it is nothing but an assault on the Constitution.'

"If such violations are not prevented by your excellency these violations would certainly continue," the memorandum said.
