"The Prime Minister's security is important, (but) at the same time such incidents are not good," he said.
Responding to a set of queries in DMK mouthpice 'Murasoli,' Karunanidhi said the incident should be seen as "an insult" to Tamil Nadu and its police department.
"It is regrettable that the Prime Minister's SPG officials are not even aware who the state DGP is. The right thing to do is hold a probe and take action against those responsible. It will also ensure better relations," he said.
Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had slammed SPG for the "outrageous" incident and demanded action.
Karunanidhi, whose party is a former UPA ally, flayed the Centre's decision to relax FDI cap in various sectors and reiterated his party's stand against it. The government had last week opened the gates to overseas investors relaxing investment norms in multi-brand retail and raising FDI cap in several sectors while making it 100 per cent in telecom.
On Cabinet Committee for Economic Affairs approving a 10 per cent stake sale in IOCL, he said DMK will always oppose any disinvestment in public sector undertakings.
