DMK President M Karunanidhi today lashed out at Tamil Nadu government's directive asking college students to write their assignments only in English, saying such a move would lead to 'partiality' towards students.
"The decision to introduce English as a medium of instruction in state-run schools and directing students to write their assignments only in English will only further complicate matters. Such a move that will create partiality towards students is highly condemnable," he said in a statement.
"Some argue that making English a teaching language will help students get employment," he said and pointed out that in many countries English was not even a spoken language.
"In countries like Russia, Germany, Japan, China, their own languages are used as official and teaching languages.", he pointed out.
As per a recent announcement made by the ruling AIADMK government, students would not be allowed to use Tamil in tests and assignments and instead have to use English language.
