According to the JIA Director, J S Balhara, better international flight connectivity, tourist inflow and blue collar job flyers from Rajasthan can be attributed to this rise.
The connectivity of Singapore, Bangkok, Dubai, Malaysia, Sydney and European countries to the Pink city have led to the increase in the number of flyers, Balhara told PTI.
According to the data, the number of domestic and international flyers was 22.08 lakh in 2014-15 and shot up to 38.05 lakh in the year 2016-17.
Nearly 18.71 lakh took flight from the airport in 2014- 15, which increased to 33.51 lakh in 2016-17.
The number of flyers has increased in the state due to the intra-state regional connectivity scheme of the state government, which commenced from October 2016 on six different routes connecting nine cities, Balhara said.
In 14 months of the operations, 14,955 passengers took the flight service.
Considering the rise in number of passengers flying in and out of Jaipur, airport authorities have initiated renovation work at the airport.
"Terminal-1 at the JIA is being renovated to tackle the increasing load at Terminal-2. The work is expected to complete in December 2018.
"Also, horizontal expansion of arrival and departure area at the Terminal-2 is also underway," the JIA director said.
For the expansion plan scheme and its execution at Terminal-2, Airport Authority of India (AAI) headquarter has appointed a project monitoring consultant last month, he added.
