The Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) general secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa has written a letter to UN Secretary General Ant?nio Guterres for passing of a resolution to seek exemption for Sikhs to wear their religious symbols, by the world body's General Assembly.
Sirsa, who is a BJP-SAD legislator in the Delhi Assembly, said the Sikhs face problems in different countries because of wearing their religious symbols.
A follower of the Sikhism has to wear five religious symbols which are considered articles of faith. The symbols, also known as five Ks, include Kesh, Kara, Kanga, Kaccha and Kirpan. In some countries the Sikhs are not allowed to wear turbans.
He offered a presentation before the member countries, by the DSGMC, to explain the complex issue and problems being faced by the members of the Sikh community.
Sirsa also met the visiting UK Member of Parliament Tanmanjit Singh Dhesi in Delhi to discuss the issue.
