DU college holds Governing Body meet at posh venue, teachers

Delhi University's Aditi college which has been facing protests in the wake of an alleged sexual harassment case, conducted its Governing Body (GB) meeting at a posh venue rather than the college premises triggering agitation by the teachers.
The college had last week fired an ad hoc professor after he was booked for physically harassing a student. While there were allegations against the principal of shielding the accused, the GB chairman claimed that due investigation was conducted by the college's Internal Complaints Committee (ICC).
The accused professor, a visually-impaired person, was also arrested.
"Why is the GB being held outside the college? The Principal and Chairman are not willing to discuss issues with teachers. They want to conduct GB proceedings in secret. Teachers association has already passed a no confidence motion against the chairperson which our representatives presented in the meeting," said a teacher.

However, chairman of the GB Bindu Puri refuted the allegations and said the meeting was held outside as security concerns were raised by some teachers.
"Security concerns were raised about holding the meeting at the college which we had tried to do at an earlier date following which I had taken clearance from the University to hold the meeting at an outside venue," she said.
Puri said that the students are suffering due to protests by some teachers and the classes have been suspended.
"Regarding the sexual harassment case, the matter was brought to my notice and we terminated the services of the accused professor. The concerns of the teachers, if any, could have been resolved if the meet would have been allowed to take place," she said.
