The Delhi University Teacher Association (DUTA) today decided to stage a protest in the university premises on July 19 in support of their demand to ensure joining of ad-hoc teachers in the new academic session.
"The DUTA executive has unanimously decided to stage a dharna from 2-4 PM in the University premises on Saturday," DUTA President Nandita Narain said.
"We want to ensure the joining of all the ad-hoc teachers on July 21, 2014 in colleges where they have worked till the last working day of the previous academic session and also ensure the payment of summer salary to them which they will be denied otherwise," she said.
The DUTA president alleged that there are 4,500 ad-hoc teachers in the DU which itself is a violation of UGC rules which permits employment of only 10 per cent ad-hoc teachers.
"Now if they are not allowed to join on the commencement of new session they will be denied their summer salary too which is violation of even the ad-hoc appointments," she added.
The demands raised by DUTA also include convening the meetings of the competent statutory bodies of the University, ie, the Faculties, the Academic Council and the Executive Council, to expedite the approval of the restructured courses. and the recommendations of the Committees of Courses regarding restructured courses be honoured, she further added.
