The carcass of a wild elephant was recovered from Kaziranga National Park in Upper Assam today, Forest department sources said.
The pachyderm's body was found at Baneswar, the additional area of the habitat of the one-horn Great Indian Rhinosaurus, the sources said.
The jumbo may have been wounded during an operation against poachers by the forest department inside the Park.
There was a shoot-out between the illegal hunters and the authorities in which the elephant may have been injured, the sources added.
