The Odisha Police on Friday asked educational institutions where Kashmiri students are studying to ensure their safety and security.

Director General of Police (DGP) B K Sharma issued such a direction while reviewing law and order situation in the state, an official said.

Sharma has categorically said that though there is no such threat to students from Jammu and Kashmir but police should not take any chance in this regard, an official who attended the meeting said.

"We are in constant touch with the educational institutions where Kashmiri students are studying," said Commissioner of Police, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack, Satyajit Mohanty.

He said local police stations have been asked to remain vigilant and keep in touch with both Kashmiri students and the heads of the institutions where they are studying. Sources said there are about 30 students from Jammu and Kashmir who are studying in educational institutions in Bhubaneswar.

Meanwhile, the police has also made elaborate security arrangement for the state level parade on Independence Day in wake of the advisory issued by the Centre following the abolition of Article-370.

For the first time, the state level parade in Bhubaneswar, will be held at Exhibition Ground in Unit-III area instead of being conducted at the Mahatma Gandhi Marg near state Assembly.
