A former BJP corporator was arrested here Thursday by Anti-Extortion Cell of police for allegedly extorting money from a builder.
Rajkumar Yadav, the accused, allegedly demanded Rs 50 lakh from a city-based builder, threatening to approach the authorities and seek action against his construction projects if he did not pay up, police said.
Yadav had allegedly accepted Rs 5 lakh from the builder, they said.
Yadav was allegedly part of a group of racketeers who obtained information about various construction projects under the Right to Information Act and used it to blackmail the builders, police said.
Police had arrested two persons including former corporator Sudhir Barge for allegedly demanding and accepting Rs 5 lakh from the same builder last week.
